It is important for the spaces we inhabit, particularly our homes, to reflect our personalities. The design world can take itself very seriously and can be very intimidating, but it doesn't have to be that way. I love it when people add something quirky, fun or humorous into the mix that isn't expected. You can do it with products, artwork, paint, or you can do it on a bolder scale with a whole room.
It is important to remember that not everyone is going to understand your type of fun or quirk, but that's ok because it is about you, not them! A client once said to me of the room below, "I love the wallpaper, but I just don't get the gnome stool!" I could have chosen a beautiful side table, but I felt that the gnome was needed to lighten the load of the heavily decorated corner, and it appealed to my sense of humour.
Adding something quirky doesn't have to be tacky or gaudy. Sometimes it takes courage, particularly to make bigger budget or permanent fixture decisions, and that is where an Interior Decorator or Designer can help! Obviously it is also important to find an Interior Designer or Decorator that understands your personality and can reflect that in your interior.
Here are some of the ways that you can add some fun into your interior...
